Volunteers

The staff at Southside often say “we could not do this without our volunteers.” This sounds like an exaggeration, but certainly is not! Our volunteers are integral to the work we do to serve San Marcos and the wider Hays County community. In 2024, hundreds of volunteers contributed more than $100,000 worth of hours at Southside. Volunteers also tend to donate financially or with in-kind items because they have first-hand knowledge of their importance.

In 2025 so far, Southside has hosted seven volunteer groups representing nearly 100 individuals. These groups have completed projects ranging from painting our temporary shelter bedrooms to organizing storage areas to deep cleaning. Other groups have committed to serving and/or cooking weekend dinners on a monthly basis. Every day Monday-Friday we have three or more individuals who serve dinner with Chef JJ, and several folks have sprung into action at the last minute to help us move families into permanent housing.

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and we cannot thank you enough for all that you do!
