Emergency Assistance

Southside Community Center receives funding to help people in need who reside in Hays County with either their rent or utilities; we can also provide work boots with proof of employment. See below for more details.

 How to Apply

Visit Southside or call to schedule an appointment. If you arrive prepared with all the required documents, you should receive a decision—either approval or denial—by the end of your appointment. The following documents are needed to process your application:

  • Driver's license

  • Social Security cards for all household members

  • The last two pay stubs for anyone in your household who is employed; if unemployed, please indicate this in your application

  • Proof of any supplemental income, such as Social Security, food stamps, child support, or disability benefits.

  • A piece of mail (e.g. a bill) with your name and address to verify your residence

Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 1 pm to 4 pm and typically take about 30 minutes.

Additional Information

  • We do not help with deposits.

  • We can only help residents of Hays County.

  • Please complete the application to the best of your ability to help facilitate rapid assistance.

  • Please apply as soon as you know you will need help; our funding is limited, and we prefer to help before you are in danger of eviction or having your utilities shut off.

  • We send payment directly to a landlord or utility company, never to the person applying.
